FAQs

Who are the Addison Singers?

The Addison Group of Singers (AGS) is made up of different classes and choirs for singers of all ages, abilities and from all walks of life. It was founded over 25 years ago, has been a registered charityfor over 15 years, and is well known in West London. New members are always welcome. If you are thinking of joining, read the FAQ page for information about what membership entails. You can get a flavour of what the choirs are like from members in their own words; and under the title (inappropriate - Ed.) 'The Fat Lady Sings' there's a longer piece about one member's view of joining the AGS.

The Addison Singers normally operate on three 10-week terms (the same as the schools) with a concert or recital at the end of each term. Rehearsals are held in Hammersmith on Monday (Jazz and Vocal Technique) and Wednesday evenings (Beginners and Classical Choirs); the times and subscriptions depend on which choir or class you join. Concerts are usually held in West London - Ealing, Hammersmith and Chiswick.

The Ethos of the Choirs

Choir members are encouraged and rehearsed to perform to a high standard. The music programmes include traditional, unusual and innovative contemporary pieces, and concerts have included a number of premières. It has been stated that 'the music the Addison Singers perform, other choirs perform 12 months later'! However, there is not an elitist attitude and AGS members can enjoy a good social calendar in addition to the music.

The AGS supports equal opportunities.

President

Bob ChilcottWe are delighted to have the eminent composer and conductor Bob Chilcott as President of the Addison Singers. The choir sang his 'Jubilate' in summer 2005 and the members of the choir who went on the trip to New York in November 2005 performed it again, under Bob's direction, at Carnegie Hall. Read more about Bob Chilcott and his September 2007 workshop.
