'Voices of change' - Addison winter jazz concert
Saturday 29 November 2008
7.30pm, The Wathen Hall, St Paul's School, Lonsdale Road, London SW13 9JT
Jazz Choir, Jazz Ensemble and Soloists, with the Addison Trio
Conducted by Jill Jarman (Jazz Choir) and Matthew Hough (Jazz Ensemble)
Programme
This winter’s show will include lots of old favourites such as
Georgia on My Mind, God Bless the Child and the Burt
Bacharach classic, Walk on By.
The finale will be a new piece composed by Jill Jarman,
conductor of the Jazz Choir, for voices accompanied by piano, bass and
sax. She asked the members of her choir to dream up a title for it, and
inspired perhaps by the wind of change that swept across the Atlantic
with the election of Barack Obama, singer Claire Richmond came up with
Voices of Change. Jill said
'In my programme notes for the first performance of the work, I
wrote how easy it was to be overwhelmed by a troubled world, how one
person cannot change everything.
'Who would have thought this election and this one person could
happen in our lifetime?
'It brings a new relevance to my piece
and Claire’s title is really in tune with the times. Let us celebrate
the "voices of change".
