Classical Concert, Saturday
20 March
2010, 7.30pm
Faure: Requiem & Howard Goodall:
Eternal Light
Oratorio Choir and Chamber Choir
Conducted by David Wordsworth
Programme
The Addison Singers Spring Classical Concert will comprise two contrasting
Requiems - one well-known, the Faure and one very recent by Howard
Goodall (2008).
The audience may know Howard Goodall - primarily for his TV music - Mr Bean
and The Vicar of Dibley, but recently he has been branching out into more
serious music of which the Requiem is chosen as a beautiful contrast
to the more well known Faure. David Wordsworth comments “Both pieces are
mainly reflective with a sense of quiet acceptance rather than the settings
of the same texts by composers such as Mozart and Verdi.
Faure - performed as the composer originally intended - focuses on the dark
colours of organ, low strings, horns and harp – the choir is looking forward
to repeating the work at Faure's own church (Madelaine) in Paris later in
the year.
The Chamber Choir will perform unaccompanied Motets by Aaron Copland and
Francis Poulenc.
The choirs will be joined by the Bernardi Chamber Orchestra – regular
partners at Addison Singers concerts.
