Faure Requiemin at the Madeleine Church, Paris May 2010

Addison Choir performing Faure's Requium at the Madeleine Church, Paris

On Saturday 1 May 2010 members of the Oratorio and Chamber Choir with their Music Director, David Wordsworth and organist Ed Kemp-Luck performed Faure's Requium with just one hour for a rehearsal. There was no time for nerves, especially from our three Addison Singers soloists: Rosemarie Sherrington (soprano)Chris Birks (tenor) and Andrew Potter (bass).

The church filled as we rehearsed and by the time we began the performance it was full - what a fantastic sight! It went without a hitch and the soloists rising to the occasion. For everyone involved it was an amazing and moving experience and will be added to the choirs rather impressive list of venues in which it has performed! Many thanks to Moiron for organising the trip. Read more about the trip here.

France trip May 2003 - Fauré to the Loire

Led by Musical Director David Wordsworth and accompanied by Matthew Hough, forty members of the Addison Singers Chamber and Oratorio Choirs went to France over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend, on a sortie that combined choral music, gastronomic delights, wine cellars, historic sites and chateaux.

The successful 5 April concert programme (sans orchestra) was transferred to the impressive St Denis church at Amboise in the Loire and performed to a small but highly appreciative audience. Matthew managed to tame the organ whilst David skilfully adjusted his conducting to suit the delayed acoustics. The soloists (all choir members) brilliantly rose to the occasion and the choir performed with confident and competent enthusiasm.

The weekend included a brief visit to the Chateau de Chambord, a visit to Amboise's Sunday market to embrace the smells, sights and sounds of French life, and a day excursion to visit the Chateau de Ussé, followed by lunch in Chinon and then a visit to the local wine cellars, where there was ample opportunity to stock up with the local wine.

All in all, an amazing few days that were great fun, rewarding, and a brilliant opportunity to make new friends - congratulations to the choir members who organised the trip and who hopefully also enjoyed it as much as we did. Encore s'il vous plaît!
